The Cobblestone Sessions premiere streaming event featuring some of Ireland’s finest traditional Irish musicians.

Join us from your home for a special night of traditional Irish music online, the first ever streaming of The Cobblestone Sessions filmed at The Complex. You can also buy a ticket and send it to someone as a Christmas gift, and at the same time support the musicians involved. The link lasts for ten days, so you can revisit it as many times as you like over that time.

The Cobblestone is Tom Mulligan’s traditional Irish music bar and venue in Smithfield. The Mulligan family have been playing Irish music for five generations and Tom’s laid back and friendly pub is built on family tradition; respect for music and culture. Some of Ireland’s finest musicians, including Tom’s brother, the renowned uilleann piper Néillidh, lead traditional Irish music sessions in the bar seven days a week. Musicians and singers hand down songs, tunes and skills that keep the tradition alive. With the pub closed since March due to Covid restrictions, this very special streaming event brings players and fans of traditional Irish music together to share in this important part of Irish heritage and culture.

We will hear from some of Ireland’s finest musicians on the evening. John Francis Flynn and Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin play together, a pair of multi-instrumentalists with stunning sean-nós singing voices.

Néillidh Mulligan is one of Ireland’s most distinguished uilleann pipers. He is the fourth generation to carry on this musical tradition and was first taught by his father Tom Mulligan, the renowned Leitrim fiddle-player and piper. Néillidh plays with his four children Fiachra, Caoimhe, Oisín and Éabha, who play a range of musical instruments including Fiddle, Pipes, Flute, Harp and Concertina. His two daughters are also renowned sean-nós dancers.

Irish fiddler and former member of folk bands Altan and Beginish, Paul O’Shaughnessy plays some tunes with his brother Tom on timber flute inspired by their mother Pearl and the late John Egan.

Ispíní na hÉireann are Irish music’s hottest new live act, consisting of Crumlin banjo extraordinaire Adam Holohan and player of all 6 strings on the guitar Tomás Mulligan of the musical Mulligan Dynasty.

Tom Mulligan’s daughters Síomha and Méabh Mulligan play fiddle with Mick O’Grady a singer and fiddle player from Ballinaglera, Co. Leitrim who has been playing music most of his life. When asked how did he find it with The Cobblestone closed, Mick said “It’s gloomy. I don’t miss the drink but I miss the pub. There’s nothing to stop me playing while it’s closed, but I don’t”.
